The following projects were completed as branding assignments in my fourth year of my undergraduate degree.
Lola's was created for GCM 754: Display & Signage, as part of a two-part assignment requiring the design of double-sided tent cards and a large format sign.
Crosspoint is a brand created for GCM 806: Advanced Typography as part of an assignment for the design of a new branch at Jack Knife. The designed logo abides by Jack Knife's branding guidelines as well as the project specifications.

LOLA'S AUTHENTIC FILIPINO FOOD
Lola’s Authentic Filipino Food Restaurant is a fictitious brand created for GCM 754: Sign & Display Graphics. The objective of the project was to create a tent card and large format poster that could be used to advertise a business, event, product or service.
The name, “Lola”, is the Tagalog word for “grandmother”, and is the inspiration for the brand’s vintage design. Millennial consumers are particularly fond of designs that are reminders of their childhood, and so Lola’s branding works to call upon the memory of eating at the dinner table as a child. Strong familial bonds are a key characteristic of Filipino culture, and this is conveyed throughout the brand. A bond between “Lola” and the customer is created, as in the case of the featured specials: “Apo” and “anak” translate into “grandchild” and “child”. Customers are invited into the family as grandchildren or children of “Lola”.
Inspiration for the logo stems from the classic hand-painted signage used throughout the Philippines. Nina Chua describes the “dying art of Filipino hand-drawn typography” as intrinsic to Filipino culture. The hand-drawn logo works to connect children of the diaspora to their cultural roots in the Philippines.Overall, the design is effective in promoting Lola’s through the call for diasporia cultural preservation, and nostalgia.

CROSSPOINT
Crosspoint is a fictitious brand created for GCM 806: Advanced Typography. The objective of the project was to create a new punctuation symbol that would also be used as Jacknife’s new social psychology of design branch logo and name.
The crosspoint is a punctuation mark that is used in place of “and/or”. The circle of the crosspoint was taken from the idea of a venn diagram. When something is characteristic of both the left and right, it is placed in the middle, and so the main body of the crosspoint is a circle. The diagonal line represents the idea that while the two could be the same, they could also be different. Hence, the slash of the circle.
Created in Adobe Illustrator.

In 2021, I wanted to explore a new design style with a focus on vintage influences. Catholicism is largely generationally adopted. Parents carry the faith onto their children and so on. The following designs reimagine the secular design style of my parents time into a Catholic setting.
